Barbarian Hires R/GA Vet as CEO – Adweek

Cheil Worldwide agency Barbarian has hired Steven Moy as CEO, effective immediately.

Moy joins the agency after about two years with R/GA as evp, U.S. chief technology officer, where he was responsible for monetizing R/GA’s technology partnerships and investments, delivering business results for clients globally. At Barbarian, Moy fills the vacancy left when former chief executive officer Cathy Butler left to join Omnicom’s Organic as CEO in late April.

“Steven has long been a fearless advocate for his clients, a perfect fit for Barbarian’s equally-as-fearless tenacity in helping our clients reach their ambitions,” Barbarian managing director Courtney Berry wrote in a statement. “His track record in redefining go-to-market models will only further empower our clients with Barbarian’s relentless push for meaningful innovation.”

An industry veteran of over 30 years, with a focus on digital strategy and business growth, Moy has led digital transformation initiatives for brands including McDonald’s, Mass Mutual, Carnival, Marvel, CVS Health, Shiseido, Express Scripts, Girl Scouts USA, Johnson & Johnson and Huawei.

“Barbarian has incredible DNA,” said Moy. “I’ve always been a fan of the agency’s entrepreneurial spirit, fearlessness and commitment to innovation. I actually believe that tackling this role will present far more opportunities than challenges. Today more than ever, clients need a new type of partner. At R/GA, he said much of his work centered around creating strategic partnerships, leading technology transformation for clients and maintaining an active voice in the industry.

“When it came to my work leading technology transformation for our clients, I helped our partners blend new and existing technologies to help power future innovation,” he said.

In March, as Barbarian was announcing the then-impending departure of Butler, the agency also hired Su Hyun Kim as its first experience creative director.
